Gathering Music Selection This Sunday, by Brian Zayman
The piece I'll be playing this Sunday before worship is Serenade for the Doll, composed by Claude Debussy in 1908 and dedicated to his three-year-old daughter, Claude-Emma, nicknamed Chou-chou. He wrote below the title, "To my dear little Chouchou, with tender apologies from her father for what follows." I'll play one of its six short movements, written with his daughter's a delicate porcelain doll in mind. He directed the pianist to hold down the soft pedal throughout the piece.
