Susan “Smitty” Dotson-Smith (she/her) is grateful to be joining FBC-Weaverville and just asks for patience as she navigates this stage of life. Right now she works full-time and her “Free” time is frequently filled with family needs and community events she attends as a public official. Smitty is married to husband Matt and has two adult children , Blair and Maya. Her mom Jeanette has been a member of the choir and sometimes a guest pianist at FBC.
Smitty is a consistent attender of Nature Church and appreciates the early time, more informal fellowship and the surroundings. She is grateful that the church has opened its arms to grow a creative arts ministry and is excited to bring experience and passion to this ministry. She finds the FBC a very loving home full of good people who live Christ-focused lives. She was raised a Baptist at Wake Forest University and raised her family at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Asheville. Returning to a Baptist church to be with her parents Howell and Jeanette Smith, FBC felt familiar and was very welcoming. She grew to love her dad’s Sunday school classmates and treasured co-teaching the class with her father when it was their turn. Smitty looks forward to growing closer to members and to being able to be more present in the future.
